Data-Linc Group designed the wireless Communication Interface Extender (CIX) System specifically to offer a cost effective, industrial grade automation I/O extender that provides direct PLC connection via communication ports to I/O points— no complicated PLC programming or proprietary software. The easy-to-implement CIX utilizes Data-Linc’s proprietary, field-proven SRM wireless technology. These industrial grade wireless products offer simplified, low-labor startup, maintenance and growth for I/O in both the 900 MHz (CIX643x) and the 2.4 GHz (CIX653x) ISM license-free bands. Wired Remote expansion is also available (CIX/EXR).
The Communication Interface Extender system goes beyond standard I/O devices. The “head end” is a dual port CIX6435 Master with an Ethernet and serial port for connection to a PC or PLC. The Ethernet interface supports Ethernet/IP or Modbus TCP/IP and the serial interface supporting full duplex DF1 or Modbus RTU protocols. The CIX6435 communicates wirelessly with up to 16 CIX6430 Remote I/O units to form a single wireless I/O network for seamless protocol integration into your equipment. Protocol communications with the CIX Master is as documented by the equipment manufacturer to utilize Data-Linc’s point addressing model.
Each CIX6430 Remote provides 8 discrete inputs, 8 discrete outputs, 4 analog inputs and 4 analog outputs. A full network with 16 CIX Remotes provides a total of 384 I/O points. Discrete inputs are self-sensing dry contact. Discrete outputs are open collector common emitter (sinking), and the 12 bit resolution analogs can be configured for 0-20ma, 4-20ma and 0-10VDC.
Wireless communication is based on Data-Linc’s robust and proprietary SRM Smart SpectrumTM FHSS technology. All SRM radio features are available including Repeater, Remote and Repeater/Remote modes. Operation of two or more CIX wireless networks in near proximity and in the same ISM band is supported. LincViewTM OPC real time wireless RF network diagnostics is also supported. The result is extremely robust and reliable I/O communication for both in-plant or in-the-field use (range up to 25 miles with line of sight), even in high noise environments. The CIX system has excellent noise immunity, but should loss of wireless communication occur, each output point can be forced to a specified value or to hold last value, and the communications loss is indicated by a status light and an output bit for event notification. Using Network ID mode permits replacement of any CIX unit without reconfiguring any other CIX unit. All I/O connections are via pluggable terminal blocks to simplify initial wiring, and if required, a CIX unit can be replaced without the need to rewire. Each CIX Remote can be wire connected to CIX/EXR expansion unit Remotes via RS232 or RS485 wiring. This permits I/O point expansion at or near a CIX6430 location.
Field configuration of each CIX unit is straightforward using Data-Linc’s configuration software. CIX Wireless I/O System is also backed by Data-Linc Group’s extensive background and knowledge of PLCs and was specifically designed for PLC communications.
The CIX wireless I/O network is ideal for data acquisition and control applications. The Communication Interface Extender is an excellent option for installations looking toward future growth. Merely add another Remote or another CIX network. Whether an installation is small and requires only a few discrete points or is expanding to multiple networks of discrete and analog I/O, the CIX wireless I/O system can meet the challenge and provide a cost-effective reliable solution.
